The dream of a quiet town bathed by the Sun and the breeze of a river, with perfectly aligned streets and tile houses that could well have come out of a tale, becomes a reality when you visit Palizada, Campeche.

Palizada is a Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) - the only one in Campeche- located in the southwest region of the state. If you visit Villahermosa, Tabasco, you can travel by road for two hours to find the tranquility of this place. If you are planning a route that includes a stop in Palenque,Chiapas, you can also take a trip to this destination, as it is just over two hours away by car.

The climate in Palizada, Campeche, is humid due to its proximity to the high jungle. If you decide to travel to this charming town, pack light clothing and mosquito repellent because most of the year the days are very sunny and hot. The average temperature is 28ºC (82 °F).

This little corner of Campeche owes its name to the river with which it shares its territory, the same river that gives it part of its charm. Since prehispanic times, the Palizada River was used by the Mayans as a commercial route and, after the Colony, Europeans transported precious woods such as palo de tinte (desert bloodwood) through its waters.

The Spanish and English merchants who navigated the river left their mark on Palizada, since they were the ones who brought from Europe the red tiles of Marseille that, to this day, adorn the roofs of all the houses of this Pueblo Magico (Magical Town).

The most important festival in Palizada is in honor of San Joaquín, its Patron Saint. It takes place from the 15th to the 31st of August. In this celebration, an agricultural and livestock fair is held, there are also dances and many other activities.
