The treasures of the largest state in MexicoChihuahua is the largest state in Mexico and this isn’t only related with its geographical extent but with the variety of its landscapes, which look like very well protected treasures in the impressive mountains that make up the Sierra Madre Occidental. One of these treasures is the Pueblo Mágico of Creel.
The road to Creel is special for the panoramic views that accompany you as you drive since literally, you have to cross the mountain range. Creel is approximately five hours away by car or bus from Chihuahua capital city.
Definitely, the best way to get to Creel is to adventure on the Chepe Express, a train route that runs from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, to this 1907-founded Pueblo Mágico through the Sierra. The trip lasts 10 hours on average.
How is the weather in Creel?
The climate in Creel ranges from mild to cold. In spring and summer, the intense sun may tan your skin even if the air feels fresh and there’s little rain. Now, if you plan a winter visit you must pack very warm clothes because temperatures get to be below zero and even you could witness a snowfall.
Things to do in Creel
As located at the top of the Sierra Madre Occidental it makes Creel the perfect place to practice outdoor activities and learn the Rarámuris customs and traditions.
Creel is the gateway to the Barrancas del Cobre, located in what is also called Sierra Tarahumara, equally Rarámuris home. In this place, you will find waterfalls and zip lines suitable for the most adventurous and the remains of some cave paintings.
