Riding the waves of Manzanillo

This little town that is 40 kilometers to the south of Manzanillo’s city is the perfect place for anyone who loves surfing. In fact, this is probably the best place for practising the sport in the whole country.

Cuyutluán is famous for its green waves that can be as high as 8 meters in height during April and June. A famous legend tells that once, its green waves were as high as 20 meters in height and that ultimately destroyed the port and bay completely.

This place is also famous for its saline soils. During the dry months (January to May) using Prehispanic techniques, salt is obtained. This salt is of excellent quality and regard in high esteem by professional and recognized chefs. You can visit The Salt Museum for going deeper into the subject.

Ecotourism in Manzanillo

For those who love ecotourism there is a great tour in the Ecological Center El Tortugario. In this place endangered species are protected and cared for. You can find turtles, iguanas and crocodiles. One of the activities of this Center is the recollection of turtle eggs from the beaches. Once the turtles are ready you can even participate in the sea turtles release. A really moving experience.

Finally, once here, you can make a trip through Palo verde to know the mangrove and its many species.
