Get to know León

León is one of the most important of Bajío and the country’s industrial cities. Although its visitors come to it for business, their stay becomes a pleasure trip when they discover all the options the city offers to be surprised, have fun and learn about Mexican history.

Officially named León de los Aldama, is in Guanajuato state northwest and you can get there by car or plane. By land, it’s 40 minutes from Guanajuato city, two hours and 20 minutes from Querétaro, two and a half hours from Guadalajara—it borders Jalisco to the west—and four and a half from Mexico City. Flights from the Mexican capital last approximately one hour.

León is warm, sunny and with a clear sky almost all year, one of the Bajío cities advantages. Its average temperature is 20º C, with a little dropping between December and January. It has little rain in summer.

León is a point where culture, traditions, economy and industry mix to offer wide range of possibilities. Here you can spend a weekend exploring the colonial vestiges of the historic center, falling in love with its gastronomy flavors, flying in a hot-air balloon, doing business or simply soaking up the culture while walking through its small streets and modern pedestrian corridors.

León’s fame is also related to shoemakers skills and the family factories that still manufacture and export millions of footwears of all kinds. A mandatory stop on your this-Bajío jewel’s visit is in a “guacamayas” stand: a pork rinds “torta” (sandwich) bathed in sauce—a delight that you must try at least once in your life.
