Tres Palos and Coyuca Lagoons

Get to know Tres Palos and Coyuca Lagoons

On both sides of Acapulco Bay, there are two significant lagoons: Coyuca Lagoon to the north and Tres Palos Lagoon to the south. These bodies of water are ideal for ecotourism, as boat tours allow you to discover their natural wonders.

Coyuca Lagoon

Located behind Pie de la Cuesta beach, Coyuca Lagoon is a mangrove refuge and home to migratory birds. During boat tours, it's common to stop at sandbanks to enjoy refreshments on the water or to watch the frogs jumping.

One of its best-kept secrets is the hut of "Doña Polita," a local figure famous for creating clay masks that promise to rejuvenate the face. After Doña Polita's passing, her daughter continued the natural treatment and still welcomes travelers from all over seeking to maintain youthful skin.

Tres Palos Lagoon

Situated at the southern end of Acapulco Bay, near the border with Barra Vieja, Tres Palos Lagoon stretches for 15 kilometers with navigable channels.

In one of its furthest arms, there is a garden of lotus flowers. Guides allow visitors to make necklaces with the flowers. Additionally, the black mud at the bottom of the water provides another exfoliating mask.
