Find your favorite destination and explore its charms

Magical Towns like out of a fairy tale Lagos de Moreno is one of those picturesque towns you immediately fall in love with, given the architecture and charming inhabitants found there. The city was founded in 1563 by a group of Spanish families, under the name of Villa de Santa María de los Lagos.

Located in the northwest of the state of Jalisco, the Pueblo Mágico of Lagos de Moreno is nestled in Altos de Jalisco region, just over six thousand, five hundred feet (two thousand meters) above sea level, which is why the climate remains dry for most of the year, with frosts setting in during the short winter season.

How to get there? If you are coming from León, Guanajuato, it’s ust a 45-minute drive to Lagos de Moreno; the trip takes an hour and 20 minutes from Aguascalientes, and the journey is a little longer from Guadalajara, taking approximately two hours and 15 minutes.

The families that founded Lagos de Moreno aimed to go into mining, an activity which was not as prosperous as it was in cities such as Tlalpujahua de Rayón, Michoacán, or Mineral del Monte, Hidalgo.

Historic treasures Lagos de Moreno historic downtown is home to a series of architectural treasures which have been declared World Cultural Heritage sites by UNESCO. This Pueblo Mágico also forms part of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro—the commercial route that used to run between Mexico city (Mexico City) and Santa Fe, New Mexico, from the 16th to the 19th century.

Nowadays, Lagos de Moreno has options to keep the whole family entertained while discovering the cultural and natural wealth of the destination. You get the best view of the city from Cerro de la Calavera at the site of Templo del Calvario, which boasts a facade inspired by that of the Basílica de San Pedro (St. Peter's Basilica), in the Vatican.

Cattle farming is one of the main activities there, hence the production of high-quality footwear, leather and wooden crafts for you to decorate your home with, and to remind you of this destination, its clear skies, haciendas, and striking Baroque and Neoclassical buildings.
