San Pablo Mitla, one of the most emblematic cities in the State is located 46 kilometers from Oaxaca City, in the region of the Central Valley, a region full of magueyes and nopales. From its very name one can realize about the syncretism, of its indigenous roots and the heritage of La Conquista, being San Pablo, one of Jesus' apostles and mictlan, a Nahuatl word that means “Place of The Death”.

This mystical place is full of treasures inherited from its ancestors, the mixtecos and zapotecas. The zapotecos built a beautiful city, Mitla that even today will make you feel that divine presences walk through the road of The Death, around these incredible Prehispanic temples.

Same way, its Colonial legacy is still present in this region. A clear example is San Pablo Apostol church, built in the XVI century and that is dressed up with a beautiful facade. You can also see this in the Frissell Museum and old casona from the XIX century that is the shelter of beautiful Zapotec art.

We cannot talk about San Pablo Villa of Miltla without inviting you to see its Municipal Crafts Market. Here you will find from clothing to tablecloths all handmade with ancient techniques like the loom.

You cannot come to Oaxaca and don’t eat its world famous food. Popular restaurants that you should visit are Rancho Zapata, where you can try the typical mole in all its versions (yellow, black, red or green), pair it with a mezcal, an alcoholic drink popular in the region, and worldwide. Try also the atole de panela or the tejate.
