Get to know El Cerrito archeological site

Just 7 kilometers from the city of Querétaro lies El Cerrito, a fascinating archaeological site that has been inhabited by diverse indigenous cultures throughout history, including Teotihuacans, Toltecs, Chichimecas, Purépechas, and Otomíes.

To get there, simply follow Boulevard Constituyentes and head towards Tejeda Bridge until you reach Hidalgo Street. This way, you'll be very close to this important site that contains a significant part of the pre-Hispanic history of the region.

The remnants of the pyramid reach an impressive height of 25 meters. You'll be able to admire its walls and facades built with basalt stones, some of which were adorned with hand-painted designs in red, blue, and ochre colors in their time.

A peculiar aspect of this archaeological area in Querétaro is the presence of a structure called "El Fortín" at the top of the pyramid. This structure was erected in 1887 by the owner of the former El Cerrito Hacienda and used to serve as a residence.

To better understand why this place was inhabited by members of diverse pre-Columbian cultures, we recommend hiring a local guide who can provide detailed information about its history and significance. And, of course, don't forget to capture the moment with a selfie in front of the pyramid before you leave.
