When you are walking the roads of El Fuerte, Magical Town of Sinaloa, it is important to understand the concept of resistance, because even though the Conquista was particularly hard here, this place tried to keep its traditions perfectly intact.

 

The Yoreme or Mayo culture not only lives its traditions and costumes, but also all the people in the region feed themselves through its gastronomy and its mythical essence.

 

Get to know its Parish of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. This parish was built using pink quarry and has a flamboyant spire in its tower that can be seen from afar. If you go to the Plaza de Armas you will be able to admire its kiosk and its ancient metalsmith work.

 

If you decide to visit the Municipal Palace you will be delighted by its Neoclassical architecture. Indoors, the central patio attracts all the glances with its fountain and is multiple arches.

 

Try its birria in the Sinaloa style and the callos de lobina. The gastronomy of the El Fuerte has a great array of dishes prepared with fish and marine food, you can find many yoreme recipes such as grilled oysters, clam soup or stew mule.

 

This Pueblo Mágico has an important heritage of petroglyphs. We suggest you visit the Cerro de la Máscara, a Protected Natural Area. Here you will find plenty of stone engravings and other vestiges from the yoreme community.

 

Here the weather is unpredictable; it can be as low as 4 °C and as high 42 °C throughout the year. It is advisable for this reason to bring both light and heavy clothes. During the afternoon heat can be stronger .

 

El Fuerte is located northwest from the State. It will take you 95 minutes to get here from Los Mochis. This municipality is located in one of the stops of the Chepe train, the Chihuahua-Pacífico rout. You can go to Chihuahua from here.
