The City of Portals

Would you like to tour a Mexican village? Just travel to the north of the country and make a stop at the Pueblo Mágico de Álamos (Magical Town of Alamos), in Sonora, which will surprise you with its architecture and traditions.

The town is very close to the border with Sinaloa and Chihuahua. Home of Mexican film diva, actress Maria Felix. It is also one of the first important and richest towns in the northwest of the country in the 17th century for its social and political value.

When walking through its cobblestone streets and alleys you can admire old mansions that tell stories from other times. This is because important movements of arms took place there, such as the Battle of Alamos in 1865 and the civil battle of 1866.

Its architecture will surprise you for its magnificent fusion between the Spanish baroque and the indigenous. Discover it as you walk through the Palacio Municipal (Municipal Palace), built in 1899, is a beautiful building with a brick structure supported by 48 iron columns, in its facade there is an arch, a tower and large windows.

Its architecture is made up of three main naves, and inside it preserves some fine furniture made of wood of excellent quality.

In “La Ciudad de los Portales” as it is also known, is the Plaza de Armas. Surrounded by palm trees and gardens, this place was built as the most important public space in Alamos. It has a Moorish kiosk, shops and, in some occasions, there are live artistic performances.
