Get to know Tamaulipas

The state of Tamaulipas has a variety of attractions that include beaches, natural landscapes, an incredible dam, and Pueblos Mágicos.

It's located in the northeastern area of the country and its capital city, Ciudad Victoria, has a great variety of museums and places of entertainment to enjoy with the family. Visit the Museo Regional de Historia de Tamaulipas and the Natural History Museum. Approximately 80 km (50 miles) away from the city you will find the Vicente Guerrero Dam, which is one of the largest in Mexico, where you can still see remains of the ancient town of Padilla.

Take a break at Playa Bagdad, whose waves are perfect for relaxing. In the Carbonera you can take a boat ride or practice water activities as well as fishing. We also recommend you to visit Tepehuajes, Barra de Tordo and Tesoro.

The Huasteca Tamaulipeca, is ideal to enjoy nature and adventure. Such is the case of the Reserva de la Biósfera el Cielo (Cielo Biosphere Reserve), recognized as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. The place houses archaeological remains, a great diversity of flora and fauna, as well as fossils. Here you can take boat and kayak rides, go rappelling, hiking, camping, mountain biking, bird watching, and zip-lining.

In the Pueblo Mágico of Tula, beautiful white houses and balconies of antique ironwork await you, learn the art of saddlery, pottery and ixtle (woven fibers) products. In Mier, also a Pueblo Mágico, you will admire its colonial buildings and enjoy spaces for outdoor activities and sport fishing.

The food of Tamaulipas has flavors that will conquer your palate with prawns, crabs and ceviches; Tultec enchiladas and delicious sorbets with regional fruit.

Tamaulipas will undoubtedly impress you with its incredible natural and cultural wealth.
