An ancestral and colonial paradise The Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) of Valladolid in Yucatán is one of those places in which time goes slowly,. This town still emanates the ancient magic of the Mayan inhabitants. Afternoons are made for wandering around its barrios full of colors, with its enormous houses that seem to talk about important moments in the history of the country, like the War of the Castes, The Colony and The Mexican Revolution.   Valladolid is refer to as the Pearl of the Mayan Orient since it is located in the middle of the most important touristic cities in the peninsula: Merida and Cancún. That's why this Pueblo Mágico is a must if you are planning to go to the Archaeological Sites of Chichén Itzá, Ek Balam or Cobá.   Historical discoveries with every step you take There are plenty of things to do in Valladolid. Try starting your visit walking through some famous barrios such as La Candelaria, San Juan, Santa Ana y Sisal. As you walk, you will discover temples and ex- conventos like Santa Lucía and San Bernardino, architectural witnesses of the Franciscan Order.   Stop for a moment to appreciate some of the casonas like Casa de los Venados. This place keeps a huge collection of almost 3 thousand pieces of Folkloric art. You can book a guided visit. You can continue walking towards Zaci. In this crafts market you can buy jipijapa hats, huipiles and guayaberas. In the store Donato Bates you can find tobacco souvenirs.   You can also find traditional Mayan restaurants . Try the famous sopa de lima and the Valladolid sausage. In the afternoon you can find plenty of street stalls with traditional delicacies.   You can rent a bike and visit the Calzada de los Frailes an old street that used to connect the city of Valladolid with the indegenous town of Sisal. Its casonas offer a splash of colors. From here you can get to the San Roque Museum, here you will find archaeological pieces and human remains from the zone of Ek Balam.   The perfect destination to cool off Don’t forget to visit its cenotes, amazing natural water pools. There are 10 in Valladolid and in the very heart of the Historical Center you can visit the Zaci cavern.
