Get to know Tecomán

Tecomán, located in Colima with an area of over 800 square kilometers, offers a wealth of flora and fauna, culture, beaches, and cuisine, making it a diverse destination to explore and discover every corner of its surroundings.

Its strategic geographic location places it among the must-visit destinations in a lifetime. Situated 48 kilometers from the state capital, Tecomán borders the municipalities of Armería, Colima, Ixtlahuacán, and Coquimatlán to the north, and Michoacán and the Pacific Ocean to the south.

When visiting Tecomán, immerse yourself in its history with a stroll through the historic downtown area. Admire the detailed architecture of its buildings, which will immerse you in the historical significance of the place. In the main square (zócalo), you'll find Jardín Hidalgo, with well-maintained benches and gleaming gardens inviting you to take a moment from your routine and enjoy the present.

The city's church and historic monuments are filled with special symbolism representing Tecomán's essence, such as the Temple of Santo Domingo Santiago, where an image of the Virgin of Candelaria is venerated. The sculpture "El limonero," known as the Tree of Life, symbolizes the strength and vitality of the city, standing at 33 meters tall and weighing 110 tons.

Another emblematic figure is the "Perritos Colimotes," two dancing dogs representing the transition of power. Metaphorically, they symbolize the transmission of essential knowledge from the elder dog to its pups to carry on. This artwork is significant as it is part of Colima's pre-Hispanic identity, with dog figures being buried when someone passed away.

For discerning palates, Tecomán offers delicious dishes from its cuisine, including grilled fish (pescado zarandeado), sailfish ceviche, grilled crabs, ceviche tostadas, chilayo, chacales or langostinos soup, among others. Don't miss out on traditional drinks like tuba (palm sap) and tejuino (a beverage made with corn dough, brown sugar, salt, lime, and crushed ice).
