Ixtlán del Río is a beautiful municipality whose name comes from Nahuatl and means "place where obsidian abounds." In 1823, it was still part of Jalisco, and it wasn't until 1918 that Nayarit became a free and sovereign state, with Ixtlán joining as one of its municipalities. It's a charming destination for those seeking tranquility and a connection with nature.

Its provincial atmosphere is evident in every corner, its buildings, and streets. In the historic center, you'll find the Parish of Santiago Apóstol, dating back to 1851. It's distinguished by its New Hispanic Baroque style and its construction from pink quarry stone.

During your stroll through the main square, you'll notice the incredible Kiosk that certainly doesn't go unnoticed. This iconic symbol of the city was brought from France and is constructed with carved quarry stone. It was inaugurated in 1907 and has witnessed numerous historical, artistic, and cultural events.

The municipality features mountainous landscapes and picturesque valleys, making it an ideal place for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and wildlife observation. It's also famous for its colonial architecture, with beautiful old houses and cobbled streets that reflect its historical past.
